Sunburn and Dirt

Yardwork meets geekwork!

Well, I did it.  I ran Cat6 cable from the main house to the guest house, underground.  I used a gel-filled direct-bury Cat6 cable.  I removed the bricks, cut the sod, ran 60' of the cable, installed the conduits, and filled everything back in.  Now both structures have a Cat6 line in their basements.  Now I just need to get my RJ45 couplers, and run Cat6 riser cable to their respective destinations.

What this means is that I will have gigabit ethernet between the guest house and the main house.  The guest house will be able to use the networked media server files without the speed/connectivity issues that I'm having with the wireless bridge.
The current debate on healthcare keeps highlighting for us just how low human beings can sink when profits are involved. The most recent example of right wingers crying out, like Cain, "Am I my brother' keeper?" is Jillian Bandes who, the other day, in a “lively” discussion on healthcare with cancer survivor Jane Hamsher, asked incredulously, “Should food be a basic human right?”

Advice on Layering Skirts

  • Jul. 11th, 2009 at 11:38 AM
Hi everyone,  After some serious internet searching I decided to just ask the experts.

I've been slowly compiling pieces of my outfit over the years and last year I bought a second skirt. The problem that I came across is that wearing two skirts with two elastic waist bands isn't very comfortable. Also, are hard to keep under my bodice (although I'm thinking about getting a new one this year.)

Any advice on making two skirts more comfortable? They are thin, basic skirts both ankle length.. I'm also looking for ideas on how to fasten up the top skirt other than just tucking it in the waistband.

thanks ahead of time! :)

There is no insurgency. -Dick Cheney

There are enough troops in Iraq. -George W. Bush

Anyone who talks about the post-invasion will be fired. -Donald Rumsfeld.

America already has universal health coverage. Anyone can walk into an ER... -Sean Hannity

The GOP:

Fighting a war against people that don't exist to protect you from the threat of terrorists who really do exist, so that they can refuse to send enough troops only to send more (oops lol!), while fixing problems that don't exist to help you deal with problems that do exist, like the destruction of families while fucking their mistresses and getting hand-jobs from gay men on their way to the Family Council.

But no... really... what has happened to our country's values?

You know... like winning?

Bush wiretap program

  • Jul. 10th, 2009 at 9:20 PM
http://www.miamiherald.com/news/politics/AP/story/1136796.html

Despite the Bush administration's insistence that its warrantless eavesdropping program was necessary to protect the country from another terrorist attack, FBI agents, CIA analysts and other officials had difficulty evaluating its effectiveness, according to an unclassified government report made public Friday.

The report, written by inspectors general from the CIA, Pentagon, Justice Department, National Security Agency and the Office of Director of National Intelligence, also faulted the Bush White House for its secretive handling of the program.

Bush officials so restricted access to information about the program that Justice Department officials couldn't properly monitor it - or even judge its legality, the inspectors general concluded.

The 38-page report is an unclassified version of a much longer document, hundreds of pages of which remain secret.

---

Well, duh, how does the Justice Department 'evaluate' something that they aren't allowed to see? So we'll never know if: (1) it was legal, (2) saved us from another attack, (3) is still ongoing, (4) found your momma guilty of raising a terrorist, or (5) has a really cool super secret handshake for members only.

After contacting the good folks at the George W. Bush Presidential Library, they suggested I try this website:

1.If you were president, what would be the first change(s) you'd (try to) make? Must be realistic because the president isn't all powerful.

2.What is your favorite flavor gourmet lollipop?

3.What was the last thing you saw in a store that you totally didn't need and was totally ridiculous, yet you still wanted to buy it... but ended up not buying it? (lol at my wording!)

Spread the Wealth, Leftards!!!

  • Jul. 10th, 2009 at 7:52 PM
http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/07/10/house-democrats-plan-to-tax-the-wealthy-to-pay-for-health-care-reform/?hp

As usual....what do Democrats do when they need Money for more Ineffective Gov't Programs....take Money from hard working people and "spread the wealth."

Why do Leftards have trouble with the concept that the people have the right to the fruits of their labor? If you earn a six or seven figure salary, you are entitled to that money without being taxed over 1/4 of it for the benefit of the lazy and the poor. In addition, it damages incentive to work hard for more money when you know you won't see a substantial increase in income due to the tax burden, and decreases money available to invest.

Taxation is theft....pure and simple. It is inherently coercive and anyone who thinks the IRS isnt the closest thing we have to a domestic terrorist org has never been audited. Taxation is theft by thugs with guns. This country was founded in opposition to unjust taxes. It's our duty to carry on that tradition and fight against Gov't theft.

CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocate)

  • Jul. 10th, 2009 at 3:33 PM
Have any of you been, or are any of you currently CASAs?

I'm a senior undergrad who is just beginning to look into volunteering as a CASA.

What are your experiences therein? Would you recommend it?

And also -- I know they do a background check. What do they search for? I have some minor misdemeanors in there, but I don't know if that would disqualify me...

Aisling.net changes + Sketchcrawl reminder

  • Jul. 10th, 2009 at 1:55 PM
After moving about 150 (old) articles to the new Aisling.net format, it's time for me to go live with it, if only so I can see what I'm doing.  Before, the homepage defaulted to the old, HTML version.  I was just guessing how the finished site would look.

Yes, tweaks are in progress.   I love how pretty this theme is, but I'm not sure that it's going to work with the existing articles.  Some of the graphics are too wide for this format, and I've written to the theme creators to see if there's anything I can do in CSS to resolve this.

I'll keep working with it for a few days, to see if the design issues resolve.  I'm crossing my fingers!

Also, the old site is still there... Click on the "old version" link at the top of any page and it leads to the original HTML version of the site.

Meanwhile: Reminder!  Tomorrow (Saturday, July 11th) is Sketchcrawl day!

I'll be sketching starting at the Visitors' Ctr on Boston Common, and then following the Freedom Trail.  Join me!  Here are the details:
